Loading Docks and Ramps

Loading docks and ramps pose many potential dangers for those working in the manufacturing industry. Those in commercial businesses are aware there are a number of legal issues they have to be mindful of. Manufacturing companies have an additional legal issue to be concerned with, and that’s safety and the conditions of the working environment. While some safety precautions involve things like adequate markings on the loadings docks and ramps and padding around sharp corners, another important preventative measure is making sure all walking areas are level.

 Level Headed Mudjackers Solutions

Anywhere there’s concrete, there’s the potential for shifting, slanting or cracking. This allows one area to sink more than the other, causing someone to slip or stumble as a result while moving products. Level Headed Mudjackers has the expertise to handle any corrective work your loading dock or ramp area may need no matter how big or small. We can help make sure your workers have a safe environment.

 Simple 3 Step Process

Mudjacking can typically be done in just a few hours because there are only 3 main steps that it requires:

 Step 1: Drill Mudjacking Holes

The process begins by drilling several holes in a strategic pattern in the damaged area. This will effectively raise it back to an all even position. The holes are usually about two inches in diameter and anywhere from two to four feet apart. The number of holes that are drilled varies depending on the extent of the concrete damage.

Step 2: Pump the Holes with Mudjacking Slurry

The mudjacking slurry is mixed and then hydraulically pumped under the concrete through the drilled holes. The slurry spreads out under the concrete as it’s pumped, filling empty spaces. Once the spaces have been filled, the mixture becomes pressurized, which is what actually lifts the uneven concrete. The amount pumped into each hole is carefully monitored and adjusted to create the new even surface.

Step 3: Fill the Mudjacking Holes and Caulk Cracks

Once mudjacking is finished the holes are filled with new concrete. Any remaining cracks are covered with caulk to prevent any elements from penetrating under the concrete.

Foundation Settlement

There are two types of foundation settlement: differential and uniform. Differential foundation settlements happen at differing rates and between different portions of a building. When there is inconsistency in soils or structural systems between parts of a building it may cause different parts of a building structure to settle by substantially varying degrees. A majority of foundation failures are attributable to severe differential settlement.

Uniform foundation settlement is just the opposite. It occurs at nearly the same rate throughout all portions of a building. If all parts of a building rest on the same kind of soil, then uniform settlement is the most probable to take place. Although there may be less noticeable consequences, it still causes small detrimental influences on building safety.

foundation settlement

Uneven foundation settlement may force buildings to shift and lead to crack initiation in foundation, structure, or finish. Consequently, the frame of a building may become distorted causing floors to slope, walls and glass to crack, and doors and windows to not work properly. No matter the type of foundation settlement problem, it’s an issue to fix sooner rather than later.

What Causes Foundation Settlement?

Concrete slab foundations frequently suffer from settlement problems over time. Many factors can cause these issues. One of the most common causes many home and business owners experience is due to soil conditions.  Some concrete slab foundations are poured in areas that require the addition of loose soil. If the added soil is not adequately leveled and tamped, the soil beneath the slab is susceptible to settling. When this happens it leads to cracking or breaking of the slab. Additionally, when soil expands and contracts due to moisture levels, it can have an impact on a foundation.

Other foundation settlement issues can be caused by invasive roots from large trees or plants that are planted too close to a building. As roots extend, they can start growing beneath concrete slabs. It can be a problem especially for older or historic homes and buildings. Many old buildings have sewer lines made of copper piping prone to developing leaks. Leaks create moisture in the soil attracting the growing roots of nearby trees. As the roots gain a sufficient supply of moisture and nutrients to support growth, they can eventually grow long and big enough to cause an upheaval in the slab.

Mudjacking Solutions

When a foundation is uneven or starting to sink, mudjacking is a quick and easy way to effectively make the necessary repairs to correct any settlement issues with the foundation of a structure. Mudjacking, also commonly referred to as slab jacking, concrete lifting, or slab leveling, is a process that’s used when there are settlement issues with concrete. Mudjacking is a process that’s often used when there are settlement issues with concrete, whether its for porches, decks, patios, garage floors, or more importantly, foundations. Level Headed Mudjackers has the expertise to handle any mudjacking project. Contact us today if you think you need foundation repairs.

Top Five Mudjacking Benefits

Level Headed Mudjackers will provide fast and effective repairs to concrete problems for a driveway, sidewalk, patio, garage, steps, or foundations throughout Washington, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, and Waukesha County. Level Headed Mudjackers will keep your head level when the time comes to repair concrete. Read below for five mudjacking benefits that rule over a complete replacement.

1. Mudjacking Means Saving Money

Mudjacking’s first benefit is that you will save money. Fixing damaged concrete is affordable because Mudjacking lets you pay less slab replacement. Mudjacking costs less without sacrificing quality, performance, stability or longevity. Let Level Headed Mudjackers make the process simple and affordable!

2. Mudjacking Means More Stability and Security

The next benefit of mudjacking is how it fully fills the soil voids below the concrete. This is because mudjacking fills the pockets of air. Because of that, the concrete will be strong, stable and secure. In addition, mudjacking provides long-term security for your concrete area. Contact the Level Headed Mudjackers and take your steps toward stability and security today.

3. Mudjacking Means Less Waiting, Less Cleanup

Keeping it clean is the third reason to choose mudjacking. Mudjacking projects can be completed with less waiting and cleanup than full replacement because mudjacking does not tear up or pour new concrete. This means less mess and less waiting around for the project to be finished. A full slab replacement means weeks of waiting. By comparison, mudjacking makes the concrete ready within hours! Then, the cleanup is easy because it can be wiped clean with a damp rag.

4. Mudjacking Means Matching Concrete Color

Another benefit of mudjacking is keeping your original concrete color. Mudjacking lets you keep the matching color of your concrete, while full slab replacement leaves you with a two-tone concrete slab. In the end, the original concrete color is kept and the mudjacking repair work is seamless and all but invisible.

5. Mudjacking Means More Going Green

Finally, mudjacking is a great way to go green because it leaves no waste behind. Mudjacking will keep the natural beauty of your property alive.

Mudjacking vs. Concrete Replacement

Mudjacking vs. Concrete Replacement

Three is the magic number. There’s nothing magic about concrete repair, and when it comes to mudjacking vs. concrete replacement, we at Level Headed Mudjackers believe that our repair process is better. Please read below for three advantages of using the mudjacking process, along with a bonus mudjacking history lesson.

Advantage #1: Less Labor & Less Costs

First of all, mudjacking lets you enjoy less labor, less time and less cost if you choose to raise the concrete. One must hire an entire crew to replace a concrete slab. The crew will spend time and materials as they demolish, remove and discard the slab. Then, a replacement process must stabilize the foundation, repour and cure the new cement. Mudjacking vs. concrete replacement means less labor, hours, and materials, less money, and less time waiting. In general, mudjacking lowers your costs up to 50% versus replacing the concrete slab(s) and is a much quicker process to complete.

Advantage #2: Less Impact on Your Property

Secondly, you must consider all factors when deciding to replace or repair a concrete slab. Heavy equipment is necessary to replace concrete, including demolishing and re-pouring the slab. Heavy machinery can disrupt or damage the area surrounding the slab. The mudjacking process has little to no impact on your environmental surroundings. In addition, the equipment used in the mudjacking process is mobile and flexible, meaning your property faces fewer disruption.

Advantage #3: Clean & Responsible

Thirdly, you must consider the impact on both the environment and your surrounding property. Mudjacking is a cleaner alternative to breaking and removing concrete slabs. Rip-and-replace projects leave a lot of dust and dirt and chunks of concrete. Projects of this kind require cleanup and disposal, with the potential to damage your property with concrete dust. Mudjacking services leave very little dust or dirt. The cement slurry mix is easily removed. Rip-and-repour jobs require disposal of the old cement, which is recycled into the base material but has a drop off charge. Mudjacking eliminates the need to remove the concrete and saves money in the process.

Bonus History Lesson: Mudjacking Helped to Win WWII

Finally, history holds a fact about mudjacking you may find interesting. After the United States entered World War Two, in 1941, the military needed to build bases all over the planet. World War II led to a worldwide effort to save time and money. As a result, concrete runways, roads and more were built from Georgia to Guam. Due to weather, bombing and more, the concrete runways that launched the Allied planes were in constant need of repair. Before mudjacking, if a runway was damaged, the old concrete was replaced with fresh concrete. The concrete replacement took too much time, energy, and money.

The U.S. Navy discovered that mudjacking was a great solution to quickly maintain runways worldwide. In addition, the U.S. Navy and Air force used mudjacking to repair and maintain their runways. The mudjacking process reduced the amount of time and money it took to repair damaged runways and sped the process of getting troops and supplies to support the defeat of the Third Reich. As a result, mudjacking grew to become a key part of concrete repair for folks all over the United States.

Garage Surface Repair with Mudjacking

Does your Garage Surface have that Sinking Feeling?

After years of ignoring your garage floor, suddenly the surface is so bad that you feel it every morning when you leave for work. Most homeowners rarely notice the state of their garage floors. They just park the car and head into their homes. If your garage surface is beginning to crumble, don’t panic. Take action and contact Level Headed Mudjackers before your cracking garage surface can cause damage to your vehicle. Our team will conduct a free assessment of your concrete to find a quote with a long-lasting solution that will level your concrete garage floor.

Why is my Garage Sinking?

Cracked and sunken garage floors are not just a cosmetic concern:  they can become a danger to the health of your vehicle. In addition, the condition could continue to deteriorate over time if not addressed. The cause of this condition may be an issue that needs to be addressed before it causes worse problems down the line. But what could be the cause of a sinking or cracking garage surface?

  • Water drainage: A cracked garage floor may be a sign of a water drainage issue. It is important to address this immediately because it could impact the foundation beyond your garage. Mudjacking can effectively address this issue without requiring disruptive demolition.
  • Soil displacement: Sometimes soil beneath a garage floor becomes displaced. Perhaps it was not compacted correctly at some point. The soil needs to be stabilized and replaced before repairs can be done. Level Headed Mudjackers can address this issue as well so that you can stabilize the soil beneath your garage floor.
  • Settling with age: Concrete garage floor settlement typically occurs over time: erosion and other factors contribute to the garage floor ruin. Even if you have a well-compacted foundation, garage floors tend to eventually settle. Typically, this will result in small cosmetic cracks only, and don’t necessarily need to be repaired. If the cracks worsen over time, or you begin to see sinking or buckling of your garage floor, you will want to contact us at Level Headed Mudjackers.

Why Should I Choose Level Headed Mudjackers to Repair my Garage Floor?

Mudjacking is a great option for both attached and detached garages. We take a complex job and make it simple: concrete garage floors can lift or sink independently of the walls, causing more unevenness throughout the floor. In some cases, there may be piping or electrical beneath the slab. The best way to ensure that the floor does not continue to sink and lead to more costly repairs down the road is by mudjacking the floor.

Repairing the concrete of your garage surface is more cost-effective than replacement. Mudjacking is an ideal alternative to costly concrete replacement to repair garage floor damage caused by water, soil displacement or settling with age.

Mudjacking Means Long-Term Concrete Repair

Mudjacking is a Long-Term Fix

Mudjacking is your long-term concrete repair solution. If done properly, mudjacking can last for decades. Levelheaded Mudjackers provide services built to last, without settling or deteriorating over time.

First, mudjacking addresses the reason your concrete became damaged. Next, changes in the underlying soil lead to settlement and create voids beneath the slab. In addition, mudjacking fills these empty spaces to restore the soil’s integrity and lift the slab back to its original, level position. Levelheaded Mudjackers supply expert services to keep the slab in place, providing a decade or more of stability.

Factors that Impact the Longevity of Your Mudjacking Project

The lasting power of a mudjacking repair depends upon several factors. Age and condition of the physical property are critical to determine the staying power of your mudjacking repair. Additionally, Levelheaded Mudjackers will learn about your area so we can provide the most accurate prediction for how long your mudjacking repair is likely to last.

Slab settling is another important factor. Unsettling occurs thanks to underground animals, badly placed downspouts, or poor grading of the homesite. Each factor contributes to the repair and will influence the extent of the mudjacking project. Address these issues quickly and increase the expected duration of your mudjacking repair.

The type of cement slurry used impacts the expected life of your mudjacking repair. Levelheaded Mudjackers use the highest-quality materials, designed to provide the longest-lasting fix.

Ways to Extend the Length of Mudjacking Repair

First, it is important to let the mudjacking work settle for as long as possible. Settling allows strength to build and increases the durability of mudjacking. Be sure to maintain the surrounding soil to increase the longevity of your mudjacking project.

Ideas to help prolong the life of your mudjacking:
  • Backfill around the perimeter of your slab prevents pests and water from entering underneath and causing more damage.
  • When mudjacking a driveway, caulk the joint between the garage floor slab and the driveway slab. This helps preserve the rebar connecting the two.
  • Then, make sure your guttering is clean and a large enough size to handle heavy rainfall.
  • Next, hire a professional contractor with mudjacking experience.
  • Finally, proper preparation will ensure that your mudjacking project can last for decades.
Is Concrete Jacking Cost-Effective?

Mudjacking is highly cost-effective, costing much less than slab replacement. How much less? Mudjacking typically costs half the price of complete slab removal and pouring new concrete. Most importantly, mudjacking fixes the root of the problem. In addition, slab replacement often avoids the underlying soil problems. As a result, the new surface is still likely to settle and crack in the future. Finally, Mudjacking doesn’t destroy the nearby landscaping like slab replacement. Mudjacking truly provides a long-term concrete repair and cost-effective solution.
